A New Way to Show Koi, Without the Hassle

Ricky Stoddart has introduced a new koi show format through Koi Online that aims to make entering your koi into shows simpler, stress-free, and more accessible—without compromising on quality.

This new format is designed for those who want to take part in koi shows without the usual logistics and preparation. Instead, Ricky and his team will manage the process from conditioning to show entry, all handled at their facility in Retford, UK.

How It Works

Fish listed for sale through Koi Online will occasionally include a “keeping for koi show” option. This service includes:

  • Professional care and conditioning leading up to the show
  • Eligibility for entry into Koi Online’s own show events
  • A keeping fee that starts from £120 for 12 months, varying depending on the koi

This is not a growing service — the focus is on maintaining the fish in show-ready condition.

About Show Entry & Biosecurity

While biosecurity is already a key focus at all UK koi shows, this format simplifies things even further by ensuring that all entered fish originate from one site—Ricky’s own facility. This removes the need for owners to handle their koi or move them between systems prior to the event.

It also allows the team to present the koi on behalf of the owners, in line with how many fish are shown in Japan.

The First Event: Focus on Non-Gosanke

The first show will focus on Non-Gosanke varieties and is planned for later this year. The event will take place at Koi Online’s venue in Retford, with attendance limited to participants who have fish entered.

Future shows may include more size and variety classes, depending on demand.

Why It Works

  • Removes transport and handling stress for the owner
  • Keeps koi in expert care ahead of the show
  • Offers a simplified route into koi showing
  • No limit on the number of entries per person

Get Involved

Koi listed with the “keeping for koi show” option will appear on the Koi Online website regularly. Entry into the show is entirely optional — you can still choose to have your koi shipped to you instead.
